We mailed postcards to voters, urging them to vote for Chris Duncan for Assembly District 74 and Jerry McNerney for Senate District 5 in the November 2024 election. These candidates make environmental issues a priority. Students learned about the power of the vote and how to campaign for climate candidates. Senator McNerney won his race, but unfortunately Chris Duncan lost his.
On October 9, we hosted International Walk and Roll to School day. Students were encouraged to walk, roll, carpool, or take public transit to school. Carpool drivers were encouraged to drop off students a half-mile from the campus to relieve congestion and for students to walk the rest of the way. We handed out fig bars, pencils, and stickers to participants. The event was a success!
On November 21, 2024, we hosted a climate strike at our school to rally for climate justice and honor COP 29. COP is annual meeting in which delegates from countries around the world come together to discuss the crisis of climate change.
We held a Panda Express fundraiser on Dec. 5. We raised money for our hoodies and environmental projects. Thank you, Thornton community, for your support!
The E & S Club ran the Golden Sneaker Contest in the first two weeks of March. Students competed to walk, roll, carpool, and/or use public transit the most. We hosted Flex sessions to make milk carton bird feeders, paint pictures with sand and glue, and make bead bracelets with Earth-friendly sayings such as Earth Day, Save the Bees, Save the Seas, Save the Trees, Green is Good, No Planet B, Net Zero, Carbon Freedom, Go Green.
We celebrated our 2024-2025 accomplishments with a pizza party. Thank you, E&S students, for a fantastic year! (Poster by jcomp on FreePik)
