Ms. Oliver hosted a recycling FLEX every Tuesday. Students and the E and S Club collected recycling materials from every classroom and work area in the school and moved the materials to the recycling dumpster in the parking lot.
On Mondays and Thursdays at Thornton Junior High, Ms. Oliver hosted a waste separation FLEX offering where students go to the trash bins around school and properly sort out the trash. E and S club members taught the student body how to properly sort out the trash from the green waste and recycling.
On October 22, 2022, we participated in Earth Day - Election Edition, an event organized by the Silicon Valley East chapter of Citizen's Climate Lobby (CCL). The event took place at Lake Elizabeth in Fremont, CA. Our goal was to inform people about the Inflation Reduction Act and encourage them to vote for candidates who supported the environment. We engaged the public by walking the Lake Elizabeth loop and finding people to talk to. Other environmental groups came to this event and showed us ways to slow down and stop climate change. This event was a tremendous opportunity for the club members to work with groups that cared about the environment.

Our president Shivika giving a speech about the importance of fighting climate change.
We worked hard to learn about the rebates in the IRA so we could talk knowledgably to the public about how they can save money on solar, EVs, and home electrification appliances.
On December 2nd, 2022, we organized a climate strike. We marched through the school from the flagpole to the field and protested climate change with posters and more. Many other students joined us in our march and it went well! Check out videos of our strike!
Bracelet Sale
This year we made and sold bracelets to fundraise for E & S Club hoodies for the entire club. The Fundraising team worked hard to make bracelets during club meetings and FLEX. Every Tuesday and Thursday, the Fundraising Team sold bracelets to the student body. This sale was held in January 2023.
We had a fundraiser for Valentine's Day. We sold crocheted flowers to our student body. The prices were $2 for one rose/tulip. Thank you to everyone who bought flowers and a special thank you to our Fundraising Team who made this possible!
A special shout-out to Isha who came up with the idea with her creativity and handiwork. The flowers were a hit and sold out quickly at one lunchtime sale.
On Feb. 10 and March 17th, we had fundraisers through Panda Express! These fundraisers were nationwide and 28% of sales went towards the E&S Club's activities! We raised $161.73 and $80 from our fundraisers! Thanks everyone for your support!
